Class DescriptionsPRE-DANCE (AGES 3-5) These classes are designed to challenge young children to explore movement, music, and their individual creativity through problem solving, rhythmic games, and locomotor exercises. Children are introduced to the structure of a dance class without the actual rigors of technical training. BALLET Formal training in the Vaganova (Russian) method of classical ballet is taught in a structured, progressive program with a contemporary flair. POINTE/VARIATIONS The female classical ballet medium which presents the dancer as ethereal (as though dancing on air), utilizing a hard, box-type shoe that enables the dancer to rise to the tip of the toe. ***Previous ballet training, instructor permission and a minimum of two technical classes a week are required. Students must be at least 12 years of age. JAZZ/LYRICAL/HIP-HOP Progressive training in the rhythms and movements of jazz dance whose origin can be traced back to Early American and African movement. It has been brought forward in each era as the “popular” dance of the day. Styles in these classes include character/theatrical, lyrical, and hip-hop. Hip-hop is also offered as a separate class in 4-6 week-long sessions TAP Progressive rhythms, syncopation, weight shifts, traveling and turning combinations are combined with the latest tap techniques to create a class of non-stop energy! MODERN Progressive training in a dance form that originated in the early 20th century as a rebellion against codified, strict positions and movements of classical ballet. Modern dance is a creative, expressive approach to movement that brings dance down to a more human level and combines elements of ballet, jazz, and ethnic. BALLROOM T.B.A. COMPANY /REP. ENSEMBLE These classes are reserved for intermediate and advanced level students who wish to participate in a professional oriented class, extra performances & competitions. These classes are highly recommended for the serious student wishing to pursue a professional career in dance. ***Admission by audition only. Additional class requirements will be posted on the audition information sheet, available upon registration. Company tuition and fees are separate from regular tuition.
